John Bolig's last book, Caruso Records was met with kudos from the opera collecting community, and this new volume is sure to elicit the same favorable response. Up to now, the only widely available, published attempt to chronicle Victor's Red Seal releases was Julian Morton Moses' book, American Celebrity Recordings. Though this has long been considered an essential volume for collectors of classical and operatic records, the new Bolig discography will be now be the final word.

Arranged in catalog number order, Bolig's discography covers all single-sided issues, plus their corresponding couplings, later 78rpm reissues and foreign releases. By basing the work on catalog rather than matrix number, Bolig was able to include the complete catalog, not just those issues pressed from US masters. He includes matrix & take numbers, release dates, duration of catalog listings, export releases, dubbing dates for the S/8 transcriptions, un-credited accompanists, cancelled issues and more. Artist, title and coupling indexes are also included.

Volume 2 in this series covers later double-sided Red Seal issues. In a sense, this series picks up where Fagan & Moran left off. Because Bolig had access to Moran's research as well as the original Victor files at BMG, the accuracy of his discographical work is of the highest order.
